RK HS-450 High-Speed Label Slitting & Rewinding Machine

A printed label roll rarely leaves the press in the size the customer wants. Somebody has to cut that wide roll into narrow rolls, trim the waste, count the labels and rewind each roll on the right core. The faster and wider the press, the more that finishing step decides whether rolls go out on time.

The RK HS-450 is RK's high-speed label slitting and rewinding machine, built in 320, 450, 550 and 650 mm widths and running at up to 300 m/min. Four motors drive it: a servo (Schneider or Inovance) on the nip roll and slitting, a brake motor on the unwind, and an ABB motor with its own VFD on each of the two rewind shafts. Each section is driven and controlled on its own, which is what lets the machine hold tension and roll quality at 300 m/min.

The unwind takes a roll up to 600 mm diameter on a 3 inch air shaft and is guided by an ultrasonic web guide. A load cell measures the unwind tension and the brake motor holds it automatically, so tension stays steady as the roll diameter falls. Slitting is by both rotary and shear blades, covering paper, polyester and blister foil.

Rewinding runs on an up and down system to 600 mm diameter, in forward or reverse direction, with air shafts in 1 inch, 1.5 inch and 3 inch and friction shafts in 3 inch and 6 inch. A PLC with a 7 inch HMI touch screen counts labels and metres and stops the machine automatically at the count the operator sets, so every finished roll carries the same length.

Next to the 320 mm HS-320 Pro, which runs at 200 m/min and rewinds to 450 mm, the HS-450 is the machine for wider webs and the highest output.
